📋Ingredients

To make this homemade taco seasoning recipe, you will need the following spices that you probably already in your pantry. I found the Morton & Bassett Spices to be exceptional.
- chili powder: For this recipe, I use a mild chili powder. If you prefer a spicier version or taco seasoning try a hot chili powder.
- garlic powder: Make sure to use powder and not garlic salt.
- paprika: use whichever type of paprika you prefer, I use Hungarian paprika.
- salt and black pepper: I used Redmond fine kosher salt and ground black pepper.
- cayenne pepper: To add the heat. If you prefer a milder taco seasoning then reduce the amount of cayenne pepper.
🔪Instructions
- Add all the ingredients in a small jar, cover and shake to mix. Double or triple the recipe depending on how much you think you’ll use over a couple of months.
- Cover and store in a small covered container until ready to use.
What to substitute if you don’t have Chili Powder?
Standard chili powder consists of a mix of Paprika, cumin, cayenne, garlic, parsley flakes, oregano, and black pepper. Add cumin, parsley flakes, and dried oregano to the taco seasoning, and then increase the amount of paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, and black pepper to the recipe.
How to cook taco meat
Now that you have your homemade taco seasoning it's time to cook up the meat.
- For a small batch recipe brown ½ pound ground beef and drain of the excess grease. Breaking up the meat.
- Mix in a tablespoon of homemade taco seasoning.
- Mix in 2 tablespoons of tomato paste and let it cook for a couple of minutes
- Take a taste and add more seasoning if needed.
