Blackberry Sauce

Recipe Ingredients

1 (6-ounce) package fresh blackberries 2 tablespoons sugar ½ teaspoon lemon zest 2 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon cornstarch

*Recipe can be doubled. *Frozen berries can be substituted.

       

Rinse and dry the blackberries. Place in a sauce pan and add the sugar. let sit for about 30 minutes for the berries to release their juice.

In a small saucepan combine the sugar, lemon zest and blackberries and  cook on medium heat for 8-10 minutes or until the berries soften.

Mix the lemon juice and water in a small  cup or glass.  Whisk in the cornstarch to make a paste.

       

Pour the thickener into the  blackberries and stir occasionally until the mixture begin to thicken.

Transfer the blackberry sauce into a mason or jelly jar and let cool. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
